Do skincare products actually expire?
Nothing lasts forever, especially not skincare.
So, the answer is yes, skincare expires.
As a rule of thumb, once opening a product, use it up within the timeframe on the packaging. EG an M9 stamp means use within nine months of opening. Products passed their prime simply won’t be as effective as they used to be, and you certainly can’t count on them to work as described.
Here’s why: When we open skincare, we expose them to air and microorganisms. Oxygen will begin to degrade the ingredients of the exposed product.
Although you can continue to use most skincare past their expiry (with less efficacy), there is one exception to the rule; Sunscreen absolutely expires and should never be used past its expiration date.

- This promotion runs for the month of September. 1/09/2022 – 30/09/2022
- For the duration of the promotion, we will accept up to 5 trade-in products per person.
- Any brands can be traded in.
- Each trade-in is for a like-for-like product. For example, a cleanser has to be traded for a cleanser.
- This promotion is in-clinic only.
- If you live out of Christchurch, you may send your five empty products back to 209 Papanui Road. Just print and return this form with your products. A therapist will contact you when your products arrive to apply the discount to your order.
