Your guide for healthy, glowing skin after turning 50

Your guide for healthy, glowing skin after turning 50

Achieve gorgeous, glowing skin for this golden age

If there’s something J Lo and Jennifer Anniston have taught us it’s that 50 is the new 40, and that we can achieve gorgeous, glowing skin for this golden age.

Together with feeling happier, healthier, wiser and more confident than our previous decades, we’re often also prioritising time for pampering and making better decisions around taking care of ourselves. And why shouldn’t we – it’s time to feel better than ever!

Finding the right products and treatments to maintain and improve your skin in your 50s, 60s or beyond can be a challenge if you’re starting to switch things up, as you may find what used to work for your skin may not be achieving the same results (or may even cause irritation).

This is why our skin gurus here at Nicola Quinn have created the list below, to get you glowing again with the latest in skin science, new technology and ingredients that pack a punch when it comes to performance – as well as all the lavish feel-good factors that we love about skincare and spa clinic treatments.

1. Make the Most of Anti-Ageing Actives

You probably already know that the days of products that smell like a perfume or feel silky on the skin (thanks to fragrances and silicones) are out, and that these days we’re all about science-based products that perform and achieve real results.

We’re a tough crowd to please here at Nicola Quinn, as we know that for a noticeable difference you need to be looking for potency, quality and bioavailability in your active anti-ageing serums.

The best way to start is to find one or two powerful skin correctors to your skincare routine, which you’ll need to commit to daily for best results. Some key ingredients to look for include retinol, peptides, niacinamide and Vitamins in their purest form. Explore our favourite skin correctors to target signs of ageing here.

2. Hydrate with HA

With age, it becomes more difficult for our skin to hold onto water moisture, so along with drinking plenty of water, using a quality hyaluronic acid serum will help to retain moisture, fight dehydration and keep your skin looking plump, supple and glowing.

Two of our favourites are the Dp Dermaceuticals Hyla Active serum and the O Cosmedics 3D Hyaluronic Serum, both of which use the purest hyaluronic acid in a molecular form specifically made to be absorbed by the skin, rather than sit on top of it like cheaper alternatives.

For an ultra-thirsty skin treat, the Dp Dermaceuticals Hyla Active Face Mask will give your skin a superboost of HA and leave your skin soothed, revitalised and soft – perfect for an evening of me-time or before a special event.

3. Nourish with the Right Oils

As we age, we may notice our skin becomes thinner, drier, creased and may become more easily irritated. Nourishment is more important than ever (as we’re producing less sebum in our skin), as is using skincare products that don’t contain any “nasties” that could disrupt our delicate skin barrier.

Finding a nourishing moisturiser with natural oils and no artificial fragrances is key, and a quality moisturiser will also work to reduce the look of existing fine lines and wrinkles.

We love the O Cosmedics Recovery Cream (specifically formulated to reduce inflammation and fight signs of ageing) or the GINGER&ME Regenerative Nourishing Cream (a mega nourishing moisturiser, targeting lines and wrinkles).

Extra dry skins will love a layer of the GINGER&ME Lifting Skin Balm or the O Cosmedics Youth Activating Oil Balm at night, both a blend of nourishing oils.

4. Invest in Some Professional Skin Treatments

Looking after our skin at home with a high quality routine is essential, but if you’re looking to take your results up a notch, try adding a course of advanced skin treatments into your routine for a more youthful glow.

O Cosmedics Pro Dermal Peel Facials
A step up from a traditional facial, these treatments use medical strength enzymes and actives to help you achieve a clearer, more youthful and more radiant complexion, working to soften sun damage, dullness, fine lines and wrinkles.

Each peel treatment is curated specifically for your skin type from over 30 combinations (your therapist will help work out which one is best for your skin, and you can build on their strength each time).

Not only will it be a relaxing treatment to look forward to each month, but you’ll be on your way to serious skin improvement.

Skin Tightening
If loose, sagging or crepe-textured skin is taking a toll on your skin confidence, this non-surgical (and pain free) treatment could be just what you’re looking for. These sessions use radio frequency to stimulate new collagen, which tightens the skin for a more youthful appearance. This one is great for areas such as the eyes, jaw and neck.

Dermapen Microneedling
A series of Dermapen microneedling treatments will work wonders for rejuvenating your skin, and is a popular long-term alternative to injectables. Using your skin’s natural wound-healing response, these sessions will kickstart the production of fresh collagen and elastin in your skin, minimising the look of fine lines, wrinkles and sun damage as your skin regenerates.
